One Week No Seat: Where is my seat?

Over the weekend I was sleeping in late and leaving the house as soon as I woke up. Saturday and Sunday were two very long days, without work to keep me occupied I had to stay as busy as ever. Most of my excitement for the challenge had faded and I was only driven by how close I was to completion. Unfortunately I woke up today still having to stand most of the day, because my desks both at work and home are still standing desks.

Beginning this week I was very happy with standing at work, I was more comfortable and getting more work done. Continue reading

One Week No Seat: Day 4

At the beginning of 2011 I successfully altered my sleep schedule. It wasn’t a major change, but I was able to wake up in the morning before my alarm. I had gone from sleeping eight hours every night to sleeping for six and a half at night and 45 minutes at 5 pm. I was getting 45 minutes less sleep every day and feeling more refreshed in the morning. After a few months I switched back to an 8-hour sleep schedule because it is better suited to my life, but still occasionally nap to supplement a late night.

As this week progresses my body is forcing me to alter that timing. Because I have not been sitting to relax before bed my body took a few days to get accustomed to falling asleep quickly, but was assisted by pure exhaustion. Continue reading

    For many years I worked as a full-time waiter, spending hundreds of 8 to 10 hour shifts on my feet. While working this job I was thankful for any opportunity to sit for a minute and rest. When I began working a nine to five desk job I was excited to sit while working, surely it must be easier than constantly walking in circles. Although, it didn’t take long to realize how uncomfortable eight hours of sitting could become. Continue reading
